Goa Gov felicitates master Levin for achievement in Abacus

Panaji, Dec 22 Goa Governor S C Jamir, felicitated 9-year-old Levin Monteiro, for making Goa proud by bringing laurels at local, national and international competitions in Abacus and Mental Arithmetic.

Besides the Governor, former chief minister Luizinho Faleiro, mayor Tony Rodrigues, noted artiste Dr Subodh Kerkar and others were present at the function, organised at Sharada Mandir School yesterday. The committee comprising of NGO's Utt Goenkara, Goa People's Forum, Echo Goa, Merces Civic and Consumer Forum was headed by Mayor of Corporation of Panaji Tony Rodrigues besides other prominent citizens including Ramkrishna Curchorcar, adv SatishSonak, Amol Navelkar, Floriano Fernandes, Gurudas Kamat and adv Avinash Bhonsle.

Master Levin, a class four student stood, first in India (champion award) at 3rd National Abacus and Mental Arithmetic Competition held at Chennai in September, 2006 Grade 8 in age group 8-10 years and stood second in world at 8th Pan Pacific Abacus and Mental Arithmetic competition held at Hongkong in 2006 in Grade 7 in the age group 8-10 years.

Levin was also felicitated at Chennai by IMA in 2007, being the only Indian child, aged 8 years for getting International award at Hongkong in Abacus and Mental Arithmetic competition.

He got Championship award (gold medal) in Grade 4 age group 8-10 years at 3rd All Goa Abacus and Mental Arithmetic competition in November, 2007. Three of Levin's teachers Andrea Maganlal, Patricia Carmello and Sheetal Nadkarni were also felicitated.
