DMK convenor calls on Prez

Puducherry, Dec 22 (UNI) State DMK convenor R V Janakiraman today urged President Pratibha Devi Singh Patil to take steps to confer special category status on Puducherry.

Mr Janakiraman along with MLAs and party functionaries called on Ms Patil at the Rajnivas here and submitted a memorandum in which he pointed out to the 'long pending' demand of the territorial administration.

He also urged her to ensure the bill providing 33 per cent reservation for women was passed in Parliament.

AICC general secretary V Narayanasamy, MP and Congress functionaries, including Youth Congress president Pandiyan, were among those who called on the President at the Rajnivas.
