3 labourers killed in landslide at quarry

Kochi, Dec 22 (UNI) At least three labourers, including a woman were killed and one was seriously injured, while another feared trapped in the rubble following a landslide in a stone quarry at Kuzhoor at Muvatupuzha near here today.

Police said the deceased were identified as Saramma and Jose, both from Kerala. The third victim, not identified so far, was suspected to be from Orissa, police said.

A woman labourer was admitted to the Kozhencherry Medical Mission Hospital in a serious condition.

Search and rescue efforts were still on at the site to rescue the trapped labourer.

The accident occurred around 1620 hrs.

Most of the labourers managed to flee to safety.

The landslide was suspected to have been triggered by the explosives used to break the rocks.
