Thailand and Pakistan ink deal on mutual transfer of prisoners

Bangkok, Dec 21: Thailand and Pakistan have signed an agreement on the mutual transfer of prisoners as part of bilateral cooperation in law enforcement.

The agreement ''will further expand cooperation between the two countries in the judicial field'', Thai Foreign Minister Nitya Pibulsonggram said after signing the Agreement on Cooperation in the Transfer of Offenders and Enforcement of Penal Sentences, with Pakistani Ambassador to Thailand Lt Gen Khateer Hassan Khan. ''This agreement aims at facilitating the rehabilitation of offenders, helping them to reintegrate themselves into their own society,'' the Thai foreign minister said after the signature ceremony yesterday.

''It also serves as a framework to strengthen cooperation in law enforcement and the administration of justice between the two countries,'' he added.
