Id-ul-Azha celebrated amidst spirit of sacrifice

Dhaka, Dec 21 (UNI) Holy Id-ul-Azha was celebrated today across Bangladesh amid spirit of sacrifice and deep sympathy for cyclone 'Sidr' victims.

The Id-ul-Azha is the second-biggest religious festival of the Muslims.

Commemorating Hazrat Ibrahim's (A) readiness to sacrifice his beloved son Hazrat Ismail (A) to the wish of Almighty Allah, Muslims sacrificed animals expressing faith in Almighty Allah and seeking His blessings.

The Muslims offered Id prayer at eidgahs and mosques seeking divine blessings for continued peace and progress of the nation and unity of the Muslim Ummah.

The main Id congregation was held at National Eidgah where President Iajuddin Ahmed offered his Id prayer seeking blessings for peace and progress of the country and unity of the Muslim Ummah.

Speaker Zamiruddin Sircar, Chief Justice M Ruhul Amin, Advisors of the caretaker government and elite of the city offered their prayers at the National Eidgah.

Prayers were also offered for cyclone 'Sidr' victims and affected people in coastal districts.

After the congregations, the rich and the poor embraced each other and exchanged Id greetings 'Id Mubarrak'.

The President hosted a reception at Bangabhaban exchanging Id greetings with cross-section of the people and foreign diplomats.

Many political workers were seen assembling in Sangsad Bhaban complex with bouquets, fruits and Id gifts to greet their leaders Khaleda Zia and Sheikh Hasina detained in a makeshift jails on charges of corruption.

Special diets were served among jail inmates, hospitals and orphanages on the Id day.

Thousands of people already left the capital for their hometowns and villages to celebrate the festival.

A three-day government holiday for Id-ul-Azha began yesterday.

Newspaper offices also remain closed on these three days.
