Hyderabad, Dec 21 (UNI) Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) Andhra Pradesh General Secretary K Laxman today charged the ruling Congress and the Telangana Rashtra Samithi (TRS) with failing to honour the sentiments of the people of Telangana on separate statehood.

Addressing the press here, Mr Laxman said both the parties promised statehood after the 2004 elections.

However, even after the Congress came to power, they did not pursue the matter with the Centre and deceived the people of the region, he claimed.

He alleged the Congress and the TRS were using Telangana issue only for election purpose. Though the BJP was not in power, it had taken up several programmes demanding a separate state.

Mr Laxman said the Telangana issue should not become an election agenda in the state.

The BJP would chalk out future course of action and programmes on the issue during the party workers meeting tomorrow.

The BJP had already announced its support for separate Telangana if the Congress Government introduced a Bill in Parliament.
