IAF launched motivation campaign across Northeast

Agartala, Dec 20 (UNI) Indian Air Force (IAF) has launched a massive campaign in the North East to encourage students to join the force as well as to strengthen the infrastructure.

Talking to mediapersons here today Eastern Air Command, Shillong, Air Marshal G S Kochar said the Defence ministry had been keeping close watch on neighbouring China and Bangladesh and the IAF was working for setting up a Squadron base in Tezpur, Assam.

IAF is trying to motivate the academic institutions and state governments in NE region to bring more youngsters into defence. At present about 150 officers from NE states were serving the force from NE states, Mr Kochar said.

Besides, the IAF had also enhanced the force activities in Uttar Pradesh and Pune while it had already identified the strategic locations of the country, Mr Kochar said adding that IAF was recognised as the fourth largest air force in the world.

To display all major facts of IAF's operations, professionalism and prowess, Aerobatic Team Suryakiran were formed on the eve of Aero India 96, India's first major air show and aviation trade event and over the years. Suryakiran has emerged as Ambassador of IAF and the pride of nation, he stated.
