This classic Cliff Richard number aptly sums up the mood in Lucknow as Chirstmas approaches. The people are enthusiastically gearing up for the 'Bada Din' on December 25.

Over the years, Christmas has acquired a true cosmopolitan character with people from all religions identifying with the day and indulging in merry making.

The city markets and the various malls are already starting to wear festive look complete with festoons, balloons and decorative ornaments.

The star hotels and clubs are organising special programmes, such as theme parties, carol singing, lunch and dinner buffets on the day.

While people across the globe prepare to celebrate the festival of joy, the markets are flooded with Chinese Santa Claus are other Christmas goodies.

The Santa clad in customary red jacket and sporting long white flowing beard comes in varied shapes, sizes and price range to catch the fancy of buyers.

The shopkeepers have prominently displayed their goodies and are giving special discount to buyers.

The variety of Santa made of plastic, synthetic, cloth and even terracotta are available in the price range of Rs 50 to Rs 1,000, mostly sourced from China, which steal a march on the 'desi' version in finish and packaging, Mr K L Makhija of La Bella store in the posh Janpath Market here told UNI.

Then, there are battery operated animated Santas, which sing carols or chant 'Ho, ho, ho' on touch of a discreet button. Some even move their heads much to the delight of the children.
