VC canal breach inundates paddy fields

Mandya, Karnataka, Dec 19 (UNI) Standing crops of paddy and sugarcane in more than 300 acres at Kannahatti village in the district was damaged following a 20-meter breach in Vishveswaraiah canal on the left bank of Krishnaraja Sagar reservoir today.

According to irrigation department sources the breach was noticed at 38 km from the reservoir.

Deputy Commissioner Manjunath Prasad visited the spot and asked the officials to assess the loss of crops.

Following the breach, the release of water to the canal was stopped. The repair work would be taken up from tomorrow, officials said.
