Kalam stresses on the need for implementing NPI

Bhopal, Dec 18 (UNI) Former President A P J Abdul Kalam today stressed on the need for implementing National Performance Index for developing the country into a developed country by 2020.

Inaugurating the three-day management festival 'Odyssey-2007' at the Bhopal School of Social Sciences here, he said that the joint family system should be encouraged to foster feeling of harmony in the country. This would increase understanding within family and reduce feeling of insecurity.

Exhorting youths to become role models to make the country a developed nation by 2020, he said maximum use of science and technology should be made with creative mindset.

He felt that ideal leadership gave credit to everyone for success and was not perturbed by failures.

Referring to Mahatma Gandhi, scientist Dr Vikram Sarabhai and industrialist Jamshed Tata as role models in their respective fields, Dr Kalam said these leaders raised the stature of the country with their visionary leadership.

Expressing satisfaction over nine per cent GDP growth rate, he said unequal distribution in various parts of the country was still a matter of concern.

The former President said disparities in rural areas could be removed by effectively implementing programmes related to education, health, agriculture, information technology and infrastructure development.
