Eight gamblers held in Kashmir

Srinagar, Dec 18 (UNI) Continuing its tirade against social evils, the Jammu and Kashmir Police today said they have arrested eight gamblers in Shopian district.

Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP), Pulwama, Nitish Kumar said the police raided a particular house at Nadpora village in Shopian district of south Kashmir following specific information about gambling taking place there.

During the raid at the house of Ghulam Rasool Wagay, police found some people indulging in gambling there. Eight gamblers were arrested on the spot, he added.

The SSP said a stake amount of Rs 9671 was also seized from the possession of the arrested gamblers.

The arrested were identified as Gulzar Ahmad Kuley, Hilal Ahmad Mir, Aijaz Ahmad Turey, Shabir Ahmad Ganai, Bilal Ahmed Khan, Nazir Ahmad Dar, Gulzar Ahmad Wagay and the house owner.

Police have registered a case in this regard.
