Amartya Sen to preside over an education seminar

Laureate
and
noted
economist
Amartya
Sen
will
preside
over
a
day-long
seminar
titled
"The
Right
to
Education:
Actions
Now" in
the
Kamal
Mahal
hall
of
the
Maurya
Sheraton
Hotel
on
Wednesday.
The
Aspen
Institute
(India),
an
international
non-profit
organisation
dedicated
to
in-depth
discussion
of
global
issues,
development
of
leadership
based
on
values,
and
a
high-level
exchange
of
opinions,
information
and
values,
Shiksha
(India),
a
major
initiative
to
take
education
to
all
schools
using
open
source
technology
tools,
and
the
Institute
of
Quality,
Bangalore,
which
has
major
nation-wide
programmes
for
improving
quality
process
within
schools/colleges,
are
jointly
organizing
the
seminar.
Sen will deliver the keynote address. Gautam Thapar, Chairman, CII University-Industry Council and Chairman, Ballarpur Industries Ltd.; Jamshyd N Godrej, CMD, Godrej and Boyce Mfg. Co. Ltd. and Rakesh Bharti Mittal, Chairman, CII Horticulture Committee and Vice Chairman, Bharti Enterprises, will be the other key speakers.
The focus of the seminar will be centered around primary and school education, including how best to promote the use of technology tools to broaden their reach faster. It will also seek to capture several facets: policy issues to be resolved; implementation issues; best practices; e-tools; teacher education; gender issues; minorities, drop outs etc.
