4 hurt in clash

Nashik, Dec 18 (UNI) Four persons were injured in a clash between Congress and Shiv Sena workers in Girnare village of Igatpuri taluka during the elections to the posts of president and vice president in the Igatpuri Municipal Council.

Complaints and counter-complaints have been lodged with the police in this regard.

Shiv Sena leader Meena Gopal Khake has lodged a complaint with the police alleging that she and others, including her husband, were beaten up by a group of around 20 people. led by Congress activist Shivnath Harishchandra Davkhar, while they were returning last night after participating in a procession to celebrate the victories of Shiv Sena's Sanjay Indulkar and Suryakant Watekar as president and vice president respectively of the municipal council.

Shivnath Davkhar, who is also the editor of local daily ''Igatpuri Times'', in his cross-complaint with the police alleged that his brothers and he were beaten up by Gopal Kharke and five others, angry that their names had appeared in his newspaper.

Police have registered cases against 26 people but no arrests have been made so far.
