Woman's attempt to commit suicide proves disastrous

Puducherry, Dec 17 (UNI) The attempt by a young woman to commit suicide by setting herself on fire in her hut proved disastrous with the flames spreading to 50 huts and gutting them at Kottakuppam village in Villupuram district of Tamil Nadu today.

Police said Anjalakshi poured kerosene on her and set herself ablaze following a quarrel with her husband Sekhar.

Fire tenders from Puducherry were pressed into service to put out the flames.

The loss in the mishap was yet to be estimated.

Tindivanam Parliament Member Dhanraj and Vanur MLA Ganapathy visited the spot.

The woman was admitted to Government General Hospital here.
