India holds talks with Iranian nuclear negotiator

Dubai, Dec 17 (UNI) Indian Foreign Secretary Shivshankar Menon held discussions with Iran's top nuclear negotiator Saeed Jalili in Tehran.

After the talks yesterday, Mr Jalili said New Delhi will broaden ties in energy, transportation and security with Tehran but it was not clear if the cooperation will extend to nuclear energy, the Fars news agency reported.

Mr Jalili, who is also the Secretary of Supreme National Security Council (SNSC) said expansion of cooperation between Iran and India, as two major powers in the region and the world, could lead to upgrading their capacity for developing multilateral cooperation.

Given the expansion of economic and political cooperation between the two countries, he said historical ties and untapped potentials play significant role in long-term cooperation.

Mr Menon, for his part, underlined the importance of Tehran-New Delhi relations which would have an impact on regional developments while stressing on increasing the level of cooperation to help preserve stability and peace in the region.

He also noted that India is to boost strategic ties with all countries in the region.
