DMK functionary, 3 pilgrims killed in road accident

Chennai, Dec 17 (UNI) Five people, including a DMK functionary and three Sabarimala pilgrims, were killed and 15 others injured in a collision between a van and a car near Kumbakonam in Thanjavur district of Tamil Nadu, this morning.

Police sources said two people travelling in the van, including DMK Kadalungudi Panchayat President Thiagarajan (45), were killed while they were returning home after attending the party's first State youth conference in Tirunelveli.

Three people travelling in the car, carrying Sabarimala pilgrims, were also killed in the accident that occurred around 0315 hrs.

Eight of the injured were admitted to the Kumbakonam Government Hospital and the rest were referred to the Thanjavur Government Medical College.
