Bharti-Walmart gears up for logistic support

New Delhi, Dec 17: Bharti-Walmart is gearing up to strengthen its back-end operations in the country and is in talks with leading logistic solutions providers.

"Safexpress is in talks with Bharti-Walmart to provide logistics support to Bharti-Walmart's proposed retail venture in India and the deal is likely to take shape very soon" a top official of Safexpress told the sources. Safexpress is optimistic that its integral logistics management system, supported by in excess of three million sq ft of warehousing space covering a wide network across the country, will surely help it to get the business from the retail giant.

Bharti Walmart joint venture will bring modern supply chain and back-end logistics expertise to the country, bringing Walmart's global best practices in such areas like inventory, retail information systems, cold chain infrastructure, GPS for truck and trailer tracking, and fuel management systems.

The company manages supply chain infrastructure, like warehousing and logistics across eight industry verticals, which include FMCG, pharma, auto, books and periodicals, apparels and other lifestyle products.

The company growing at the rate of 38 per cent clocked a turnover of Rs 500 crore in financial year 2006 07. Apparels, IT hardware and pharma brings maximum revenues to the company.

Safexpress has a presence in 550 locations, spread across 28 states and 7 union territories. It has warehousing space exceeding three million sq ft.
