15 sentenced to life imprisonment

Hassan, Karnataka, Dec 17 (UNI) The Sessions Court Judge today awarded life imprisonment to 15 of the 27 accused in a 12-year-old case of political murder in which a Janata Dal(S) worker was killed.

According to prosecution, during election to Hemavathi Sugar Factory in a group clash Malali Gowda of JD(S) was graviously injured and he succumbed during treatment more than three months later. His wife and two others, who had also sustained injury but survived.

Of the total 27 accused, all Congress workers, four had died while the Judge acquitted eight others. The Judge also slapped a fine of Rs 2000 each on the convicted.
