HP polls 2007: 4 suspended for electoral violations

Shimla, Dec 16: Close on the heels of the Election Commission's warning of strict action against officials responsible for irregularities in the electoral rolls in Jubbal and Kotkhai constituency in Shimla district of Himachal Pradesh, Shimla DC Tarun Kapoor has suspended four patwaris.

The four were suspended for irregularities in enrolling a total of 189 illegal voters in the constituency of which 126 were in Jubbal Tehsil and 63 in Kotkhai Tehsil he said here. Mr Kapoor said several of the voters enrolled in list were either not eligible to be enrolled since they were below 18 years or were not a resident of the Assembly segment.

On Tuesday, Chief Election Commissioner N Gopal had told mediapersons here that following irregularities in the electoral rolls Jubbal and Kotkhai Tehsildar has been transferred with immediate effect, while action was likely against other officials.

The Shimla DC said Sohan Lall posted at Kiyari patar circle, Sushil Kumar at Anti, Tilak Raj at Mihana and Lahori Singh at Pandrano patwar circles were suspended with immediate effect.

The action had been taken against the officials under rule 10 of the Central Civil Services Rules 1965, he added.
