Two way traffic allowed on Kashmir highway

Srinagar, Dec 14 (UNI) The 300-km-long Srinagar-Jammu national highway was today reopened on both ways after further improvement in the weather and clearance of accumulated snow on the road.

We have also allowed light vehicles from here to Jammu'', a traffic police official told UNI here.

He said the highway was partially reopened yesterday afternoon after remaining closed for two days due to heavy snowfall at Jawahar tunnel, Banihal and Qazigund.

The official said all the stranded vehicles on other side of the tunnel were allowed to move towards here. This morning vehicles, including trucks loaded with essential commodities, were allowed to proceed from Jammu.

However, after improvement in the weather, it was decided to allow light vehicles for Jammu, he said.

The official said no heavy vehicle was allowed from here today to avoid traffic jam on the highway.
