Itanagar, Dec 14: The NFC has threatened to go on a hunger strike if its demand for construction of a road from Doimukh in Papum Pare to Potin in Lower Subansiri district via Hoj village is not materialised within a week.

Nyishi Federal Council in a memorandum to Chief Minister Dorjee Khandu here last night had threatened to carry out a series of democratic movement from December 21 next if their demands were not fulfiled.

The NFC has decided to go for on a fast unto death in front of civil secretariat in the first phase and in second phase it would go to Ranganadi Hydro Power Project at Yazali with black flag and force the North East Electrical Power Corporation (NEEPCO) authorities to shut down all the turbines and switch yard for an indefinite period.

The council had alleged that the road was constructed by the NEEPCO but subsequently ignored by the authority and the state government for an unknown reason.

The proposed road is the lifeline of seven districts of the state namely Papum Pare, Lower Subansiri, Upper Subansiri, Kurung Kumey, East Siang, Upper Siang and West Siang.

The NFC has alleged that despite the strategic importance of this road, the state government had miserably failed to take any action in this regard.
