Puducherry, Dec 14 (UNI) The French India Viduthalai Kaala Makkal Narppani Iyyakkam, a movement to protect the interests of people, who opted for Indian citizenship at the time of Puducherry's liberation from the French, today urged the Centre and state Government to pay attention to the plight of Tamils in Malaysia and Sri Lanka.

Addressing a press conference here today, Iyyakkam President D Shivaraj said the Centre and Puducherry administration should consider declaring November one as Puducherry's 'Independence Day'.

A memoranda in this regard would be sent to the President and Prime Minister, he added.

Mr Shivaraj demanded that there should not be any ''political colour'' to President Prathiba Patil's visit to the Union Territory on December 21 and the 'luxury expenses' relating to the visit should be avoided. He also urged the administration to declare December 21 as public holiday.

Pointing out the spurt in murder, burglary and bomb blasts here, he said the Lt Governor should order a CBI probe into these incidents.
