Goa becomes the first state with disaster management plan: CM

Panaji, Dec 14 (UNI) Goa has become the first state in the country with its own disaster management plan in place, Chief Minister Digambar Kamat announced here today.

Interacting with media persons after chairing the Cabinet meeting at the Provorim secretariat complex, the Chief Minister said the Cabinet had approved the disaster management plan in compliance with the directive of the Centre that each State should have such plan in place.

Adequate budgetary provisions would be made for implementation of the plan under which the Chief Minister becomes the chairman of the Disaster management Authority at the state level and the district collectors at the district level.

The experts from the National Institute of Disaster Management had rendered their expertise during the seminar held for the last four days in the state. The plan would now be finetuned, he said.

It was also proposed to raise insurance cover to the fire brigade personnel under the plan so that they actively participated in disaster mitigation measures, he added.
