Court awards ten year imprisonment to rapist

Shillong, Dec 14 (UNI) A Fast Track Court in Meghalaya has sentenced a man to ten years rigorous imprisonment for raping a seven-year-old girl last year.

Additional District and Sessions Judge B Giri awarded the punishment to Bawanaibor Dkhar alias Mama No yesterday for sexually assaulting a minor girl on May 6 last year at the latter's residence.

''The accused (Dkhar) has committed a sexual assault on a child of 7 years and his conduct is deplorable deserving no leniency,'' Ms Giri stated in her order.

Meanwhile, the police have taken the accused into custody forwith to serve out his sentence.
