37 MNS activists detained, later released

Nagpur, Dec 14 (UNI) Police detained 37 activists of the Raj Thackeray-led Maharashtra Navnirman Sena (MNS) after they locked the two entry gates of office of the Zilla Parishad (ZP) in Buldhana today, demanding action against an official for alleged irregularities in the appointment of staff.

According to police, the activists put locks on both the gates this morning and picketed the entry points, alleging that there had been irregularities in the recent recruitment of 'Angwanwadi Sevikas' of the body. They were also demanding action against a senior official of the ZP for the alleged irregularities, police said.

The picketing continued for nearly two hours before ZP chief Prakash Patil and other office bearers intervened and persuaded the activists to open the locks, police said.

The activists, who were later released, were assured at a meeting this evening that suitable action would be initiated in the matter.
