Rodrigues monitors development projects

Chandigarh, Dec 13 (UNI) To monitor development projects in the city, Punjab Governor and Union Territory Administrator Gen (Retd) S F Rodrigues today took stock of the progress of construction work at Vocational Training and Production Center in Sector 46-D, Regional Centre for Mentally Challenged Children in Sector 31 and Renovation work in Progress at Tagore Theatre in Sector 18.

Accompanied by Ms Jean Rodrigues and Home Secretary Krishna Mohan, General Rodrigues interacted with senior officers of the Chandigarh Administration and discussed every detail of the facilities. He said that the vocational training and production centre being constructed at a cost of Rs 2.86 crore with various facilities aims to impart professional skills to the street children and empower them to be useful and productive members of society.

Similarly, he said that the Regional Center for Mentally Challenged Children and Adults being constructed at a cost of Rs 990 lakh would empower special children and ensure their rehabilitation, to enable them to lead a life of pride and dignity.

He asked the Home Secretary to coordinate the work between the different agencies and simultaneously equip these centres with the necessary support structures by introducing innovative techniques and professionally trained staff.

General Rodrigues also inspected the work in progress at Tagore Theatre for upgrading and modernising the infrastructure facilities, with innovative modifications in the hall, stage, seats, lighting and sound systems to meet the changing needs of performing arts.
