Five killed in balcony collapse

Bangalore, Dec 11 (UNI) At least five people, including a woman, were killed and 14 others injured when the second floor balcony of a house belonging to the City Corporation, collapsed in Cantonment area in the city tonight.

Police said about 20 people were standing on the balcony as a wedding ceremony was in progress. Under the weight of the people, the balcony of the old building collapsed, hurtling them down from a more than 20 feet height.

All the five died in the Government Bowring Hospital, where they were rushed to after the incident.

The dead woman was identified as Salma (30 years). Of the injured atleast five people were said to be in a serious condition.

The building was in a bad shape as quality of construction was not good.

Corporation Commissioner Subramanya visited the spot.

A police team had taken up rescue and relief work, police added.
