New Delhi, Dec 10 (UNI) The Supreme Court today issued notice to the Centre on a petition seeking directions to the Government to place the report of the Delimitation Commission of India before President Pratibha Patil for giving assent to the same and notifying it so that the coming general elections and State Assembly elections can be held on the basis of constituencies recast on the Commission's report.

A bench comprising Chief Justice K G Balakrishnan and Justice R V Ravendran issued notices after hearing counsel for the petitioner organisation Delhi Study Group contending that the Government of India was dithering in the implementation of the report of the Delimitation Commission prepared by its Chairman Justice Kuldip Singh on the basis of the 2001 census.

The organisation's president Vijay Jolly also contended that the Union Home Ministry was deliberately delaying the notification of the report and did not seem interested in implementing it.
