More powers for local bodies: Stalin submits reports

Chennai, Dec 10 (UNI) Tamil Nadu Local Administration Minister M K Stalin today presented two reports to Chief Minister M Karunanidhi, recommending more powers for local bodies in the State.

The recommendations were made by the third high-level committee, constituted in January last, after a detailed study and talks with heads of various local bodies in the State, an official release here said.

The committee, after holding a conference of heads of local bodies, sought views from as many as 12,618 village panchayat leaders, before finalising its two reports, the release said.

Senior officials and heads of urban and rural local bodies were present when Mr Stalin presented the reports to the Chief Minister at the Secretariat, the release added.
