New Delhi, Dec 10 (UNI) Left parties today were of the view that the chances of Mr L K Advani becoming the country's Prime Minister were rare saying the situation will not arrive where the BJP has to have a PM.

Top leaders of the CPI and CPI(M) told UNI that even within the BJP itself Mr Advani faces stiff opposition.

The left leaders comments came after the BJP named Mr Advani as the Prime Ministerial candidate.

The BJP patriarch and former Prime Minister A B Vajpayee made a request to this effect today and the party parliamentary board unanimously endorsed the same.

CPI General Secretary A B Bardhan said, "As far as Mr Advani is concerned this is a sheer pipe dream." A situation will not come where the BJP will be in a position to have its prime minister, Mr Bardhan said .

Mr Bardhan added that Mr Advani can remain satisfied that he is at least a prime ministerial candidate.

CPI(M) Polit Bureau member M K Pandhe said it is not going to be a smooth sailing for Mr Advani as even within the BJP a strong section of the party is against him.

" Mr Advani has rare chances of becoming the PM because the BJP is not going to win majority on its own in parliament.

Besides, Vajpayee is respected by the non-BJP party whereas in Mr Advani's case this is not possible," he said.
