23 booked for distributing inciting literature

Nashik, Dec 10 (UNI) The police here has registered offences against 23 people for allegedly trying to disturb the peace in the communally-sensitive town of Malegaon.

The group was found distributing copies of a book entitled ''Aapki Amanat Aapki Seva Mein'', that allegedly contains provocative matter which could create communal divide, police sources said.

Police investigations have shown that such activities had been carried out in some nearby villages also over the last two weeks.

Apart from distributing copies of the book, the group had also indulged in appealing people to convert.

The police here has registered offences against Maulana Mohammed Kalim Siddiqui (presenter of the book), Samiya Maimul Islam (publisher), Suleman Nadvi (editor), Maulana Abu Osama, Maulana Siraj Ahmed and Maulana Awez Qasumi, among others, including four women.

The complaint has been lodged by police constable Rafiq Ahmed Munir Shaikh.
