Spotted deer dies after rescue

Madurai, Dec 9 (UNI) An adult male spotted deer caught by the Forest Department staff in the city, died soon after it was let into the wild near Sholavanthan here this evening.

The six-year-old deer was caught after the locals found it on the busy Thirumalai Naickar Mahal road, this morning. The deer, which sustained injuries suspected to be from dog bites, was brought to the Government Veterinary Hospital here.

Later, it was taken in a van to the Sholavanthan forest area and released. However, the wild animal swooned and died immediately.

Department sources said the deer might have been illegally reared as a pet in a house in the area.
