Vadodara, Dec 9 (UNI) The police today arrested 24 sadhus for staging a protest demonstration against Gujarat Chief Minister Narendra Modi here.

The sadhus have been arrested under sections 128 of Indian Penal Code (IPC) and 135 of the Bombay Police Act after they resorted to a road blockade near the Mahatma Gandhi Gruh and tried to burn an effigy of Mr Modi in violation of prohibitory orders, police said.

The demonstration was led by Ayodhya-based Akhil Bhartiya Sadhu Sant Samaj general secretary Dr Devendra Dipanshu Das.

The angry protesters, who were carrying anti-Modi banners and placards, held the Chief Minister responsible for recent attacks and killing of sadhus across the state and demanded that he should be booked for the offences.

Later, police produced all of them in a local court, which granted them bail.
