In an obituary reference, Speaker Somnath Chatterjee described Saroj as a committed social and political worker who strove for the welfare of the poor, the downtrodden and the deprived sections of society.
Saroj, who died on July 27 this year in Pratapgarh, was a member of the Ninth Lok Sabha from 1989 to 1991, representing Mohanlalganj in Uttar Pradesh.
He was also a member of the Uttar Pradesh Assembly, from 1980 to 1989, and served as Minister of State in the UP Government from 1980 to 1982, Mr Chatterjee said.
The House then stood in silence for a while as a mark of respect to the memory of the departed soul.
