Bihar Assembly adjourned after obituary references

Patna, Dec 7 (UNI) The opening day of the Bihar Assembly's brief winter session was adjourned for the day today after making obituary references to former MLAs, MPs and ministers.

In his welcome address, Speaker Udai Narayan Choudhry said the members should play constructive role in discharging their responsibilities on the floor of the House.

He said Parliamentary democracy was facing serious challenges and the public representatives should strive to protect its dignity.

Mr Choudhary also announced the names of Mr Bhola Singh (BJP), Mr Pashupati Kumar Paras (LJP), Mr Ashok Kumar (Congress), Mr Abdul Bari Siddiqui (RJD) and Mr Harinarayan Singh (JD-U) as presiding officers for the Assembly's current session.

The Speaker also constituted a 16-member Business Advisory Committee.

Later, the members observed one-minute silence after obituary references were made to fomer MLAs Upendranath Das, Narmadeshwar Kushwaha, Lambodar Pathak, Bhikhan Baitha, Ramvilas Jha and Mani Prasad Singh, former MPs Ajit Singh and Tarkeshwari Sinha and former ministers Ramdeo Mahto and Surendra Singh among others.
