Shops remain closed following agitation

Kozhikode, Dec 6 (UNI) Shops and establishments remained closed at Beypore in Kozhikode district following a hartal called by the Left parties in protest against unloading of palmolein from a foreign ship berthed off Beypore Port.

Public transport, including private buses, were off the road as an impact of the dawn-to-dusk agitation called by CPI(M), CPI and their mass organisations, among others.

Police said the hartal was peaceful as no untoward incident was reported from the locality so far.

Meanwhile, the agitators said they would not allow unloading of the consignment from the Indonesian ship.

The locality had witnessed demonstrations by various organisations after the arrival of the ship.
