Chandigarh, Dec 6 (UNI) The National Accreditation Board for Testing and Calibration Laboratories (NABL) has issued an 'Accreditation Certificate' to Panchkula-based laboratory of the Haryana State Pollution Control Board (HSPCB) for chemical testing.

NABL is a premier official agency for granting recognition to the best and most meritorious laboratories.

''This is a rare honour and speaks high of the technical capability of the lab and its accuracy'' a spokesman of HSPCB said, adding the certificate would be valid up to July 18, 2008.

The laboratory is the first State Pollution Control Boards' laboratories in India, to receive certificate of accreditation from NABL of the Department of Science and Technology, he said. The certificate was given after vigorous inspections and testing. The lab officers had also to undergo special training courses, he added.

The spokesman said the Board had recently purchased Atomic Absorption Spectrophotometer and Gas Chromatograph, costing Rs 40 lakh, to upgrade the existing infrastructure in the laboratory and has also recruited six junior scientific assistants to strengthen it.

There are four laboratories of the Pollution Control Board, located at Panchkula, Hisar, Gurgaon and Faridabad, which are dedicated to provide accurate analytical services.
