DHD ambush on Langthasas

Guwahati, Dec 6 (UNI) Two sons of Gobinda Chandra Lagthasa, the NC Hills strongman and Congress Minister in Assam, had a miraculous escape when Dimasa militants ambushed their convoy this afternoon near Haflong.

According to official source, the incident occurred at around 1200 hrs when the Langthasa family was proceeding towards Guwahati.

The incident occurred at Gurubari, which is 24 km from Haflong.

In the convoy was Dipendu Langthasa and Nirmal Langthasa along with their family members. The former had lost in just concluded District Council election where the Congress was wiped out by the opposition Autonomous State Demand Committee (ASDIC) and the BJP.

The driver and a personal security officer were injured but they are out of danger. Mr Langthasa had earlier lost two of his elders sons to the militants.

His second son Narmendu Langthasa was killed in 2003 while his eldest son Purendu Langthasa, who was his political heir and Chief Executive Member of the NC Hills district council was assassinated in May last.

The militants have been targeting the Langthsa family which has been ruling the District Council for the past half a century. The militants believed that the family was completely responsible for all the problems of NC Hills.
