Mayawati expresses concern over steep increase in prices

Ahmedabad, Dec 5 (UNI) BSP supremo and Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Mayawati today expressed concern over the steep increase in prices of essential commodities and said the hike in prices only affected the poorer in society.

Ms Mayawati said if the BSP was voted to power, it would ensure that all people accross the society get equal treatment as it was happening in Uttar Pradesh.

Without naming the BJP and the Congress, she said both the parties ''never protected Dalits and minority communities'', while referring to communal riots that erupted during the BJP rule and mass killings of Dalits in 1981 during the Congress rule.

Ms Mayawati addressed several rallies today in Junagadh and Surendranagar districts.

The meetings attracted large crowds, particularly in Amerali and Valsad, said BSP leader and in-charge of Gujarat affairs R P Singh.

Listing the achievements of good goverance in Uttar Pradesh, she said the BSP would ensure that downtrodden people in the state live peacefully.
