Ghazipur, Dec 5 (UNI) A local court today rejected an application seeking transfer of controversial Independent MLA Mukhtar Ansari to Agra Central Jail from Ghazipur district prison.

According to official sources, acting on instructions of Uttar Pradesh government, DG (Prison Administration and Reform services) had directed the Ghazipur jail administration to seek court's permission for transferring Mukhtar to Agra Central Jail.

On November 1, Ghazipur Jail Superintendent had submitted an application before Fast Track Court (I) Judge Shaileshwar Nath Singh seeking permission to transfer the controversial MLA from Mau to Agra Central Jail.

Since the application did not mention any satisfactory reason for getting the transfer orders, the court subsequently rejected it.

Mukhtar Ansari, his brother and Samajwadi Party (SP) MP Afzal Ansari and their brother in-law Ezaz Ul Haq are prime accused in the high-profile BJP MLA assassination case.

Rai, an MLA from Mohammadabad constituency in Ghazipur district, and his seven supporters were shot dead in broad daylight in Ghazipur on November 29, 2005.

They were ambushed near the Ballia-Ghazipur border by several motorcycle-borne miscreants armed with sophisticated weapons.

Later, an FIR was lodged against 10 people, including Mukhtar Ansari, his brother Afzal Ansari and notorious eastern UP gangster Munna Bajrangi in connection with the killing.

Besides, Mukhtar is the prime accused in Mau riots and attack on ASP Udai Shankar Jaiswal in 1996.
