Special Polio immunisation programme on Dec 9
Bangalore, Dec 4 (UNI) Karnataka Health department has taken up a special polio immunisation programme on December 9 in and around the city and Ramanagar district following reports about detection of a polio case in the city.
Health Department Principal Secretary Usha Ganeshan told reporters here today that it had launched the polio programme following the detection of a polio case with a two-year child coming from Uttar Pradesh in the city.
The state had eradicated the polio virus completely and there was no case found since 2004, she said adding that the programme is now being launched to protect the children of the state from the imported virus from outside the state.
In UP the virus is still in prevailant in a large scale and the people migrating from there to other states could carry the virus along with them, she added.
