Karunakaran criticises attack on supporters

Thiruvananthapuram, Dec 4 (UNI) Terming the attack against his supporters at Kochi by a section of the Nationalist Congress Party (NCP) workers as ''very unfortunate'', Veteran leader K Karunakaran today said such incident should not have happened.

Talking to mediapersons at his residence here, Mr Karunakaran said although it was only an isolated incident, it should not have happened.

Giving a clean chit to his son, who is the NCP state president, Mr Karunakaran said he knew him very well and was sure that his son did not have any role in the incident.

The veteran leader said those who indulged in such activities should be isolated from the society and even primary membership should not be given to such people.

Earlier, in Kochi, a meeting convened by the supporters of Mr Karunakaran, who has expressed his desire to return to the Congress, was marred by violence as alleged sympathisers of Mr Muraleedharan went on a rampage at the venue.
