CITU, AITUC activists arrested in Madurai

Madurai, Dec 4 (UNI) More than 750 people, including 80 women, affiliated to AITUC and CITU were arrested, when they staged a 'road roko' agitation at two places in the city today.

Police said the agitators demanded a separate law to protect the social status of labourers.

About 690 activists of the AITUC and the CITU, led by AITUC District Secretary Nanda Singh, were arrested, when they blocked the road near Periyar Bus Stand, while 60 others led by CITU District Secretary Vikraman, were arrested near Thamukkam grounds, police added.
