Fatehgarh Sahib, Dec 4 (UNI) The Anganwari Workers' Union Punjab held a protest in support of their demands at Sirhind, disrupting traffic on National Highway No. 1 for some time.

They also burnt the effigy of Prime Minister Manmohan Singh.

The blockade was lifted with the intervention of Fatehgarh Sahib SP.

Talking to media persons, the union general secretary Harjit Kaur Panjola said the anganwari workers, getting meagre monthly stipend, should be brought at par with the government employees.

She said that despite repeated requests made to the Central government, no measures had so far been initiated to fulfill their demands. As a result, there was a wide spread resentment among the anganwari workers, who would be forced to intensify their protests, she added.
