Sitar maestro Balekhan buried

Hubli, Dec 3 (UNI) The body of renowned Sitar Maestro Balekhan, who died in a private hospital in Belgaum yesterday, was laid to rest in Dharwad today.

A 'Rajyotsava' awardee, Balekhan (65), who popularised the sitar in South India, had enthralled auidence during his performance in London, Kenya, Uganda, Tanjania, Manchester and Paris.

He was survived by his wife, two sons and three daughters.

Earlier, Dharwad district Deputy Commissioner M S Sridhar placed wreaths on the body on behalf of the state government.

Renowned Hindustani vocalist Gangubai Hangal, Kannada writer Channaveer Kanavi and many of his students among others attended the burial.
