Raids on chemists and druggists association office

Kochi, Dec 3 (UNI) Drugs Control Department officials today conducted raids at the All Kerala Chemists and Druggists Association's office here, following complaints of irregularities in supply of drugs.

According to a Drug Inspector here, the raids by the department's intelligence wing, were conducted following complaints that the government's fair price medical stores like 'Neethi' and 'Maveli' were not getting adequate stock of medicines.

There were also complaints that the association was illegally charging money from pharmaceutical companies and suppliers for an 'NOC clearance' to launch a product in the market, he said.

''Huge amounts of drugs, awaiting clearance from the association, and certain incriminating documents were seized in the raids,'' the official added.

A case was registered under the Drugs and Cosmetics Act, 1940 against the association for illegally storing medicines, he added.
