Patna, Dec 3 (UNI) Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar today announced that Meena Singh, wife of late JD(U) MP Ajeet Singh, will contest the coming byelections to Bikramganj parliamentary constituency, slated for December 29.

The Bikramganj Lok Sabha seat fell vacant following the death of JD(U) MP Ajeet Singh, who was killed in a road accident near Siwan in Bihar.

After a Janta Durbar, Mr Kumar told reporters here that the decision had been taken to field Ms Singh as its candidate in the by elections, as her late husband was popular in the area and contributed a lot towards the development of the constituency.

''There was immense support from the people of Bikramganj in favour of Meena Singh, and the local unit of the party had also recommended for her candidature,'' he said, adding she would definitely emerge victorious.

''The kind of support that Ms Singh was getting from all sections of society in Bikramganj, it would not be an exaggeration to call her the people's candidate,'' he said.
