CPI-M Politburo meet begins on Dec 3

The
two-day
politburo
meeting
of
the
Communist
Party
of
India-Marxist
(CPI-M)
will
begin
here
today
where
several
issues,
including
those
related
to
Bangladeshi
author
Taslima
Nasreen,
violence-hit
Nandigram
and
the
Indo-US
civilian
nuclear
deal,
are
likely
to
be
discussed.
The issues related to Nasreen pertain to her return to Kolkata and her writings. The situation in Nandigram after the deployment of the central paramilitary forces is also on the agenda. The party"s top-brass is likely to come out with a statement on the party"s stand on these issues.
Apart from this, issues of national importance and political situation in the country are likely to come under scanner. The leaders will also review economic and foreign policies of the United Progressive Alliance (UPA) Government.
Other important issue that may come up for discussion would be the party's green signal to the UPA Government on starting talks with the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) on India-specific safeguards agreement related to the Indo-US nuclear deal, and its implications.
Officially, the main agenda of the meet is to finalise plans for the Coimbatore Party Congress scheduled for March next year.
