Centre should use diplomatic channels to release Tamils:MDMK

Chennai, Dec 3 (UNI) MDMK General Secretary today urged the Union Government to use its diplomatic channels to secure the release of thousands of Eelam Tamils arrested by the Sri Lankan government.

Strongly condemning the arrests, Mr Vaiko in a statement here said the Lankan government had resorted to such large-scale arrests of Tamils living in Colombo without any valid reason to instill fear in their minds.

Alleging that the Centre was maintaining a stoic silence after providing large quantities of arms to the Lankan government, which had allegedly used it against the Tamils, he said the recent large-scale arrest has unmasked the true colours of the Lankan government.

Mr Vaiko said large number of Tamils were languishing in jails in Colombo and wanted the Centre to use its diplomatic channels and take steps to secure their release.
