Call for mechanism to protect cows

Tirupati, Dec 3 (UNI) Andhra Pradesh Planning Board Vice-Chairman and NAC Advisor D Swaminadhan today stressed the need for a national mechanism under public-private partnership for the protection of cows in India.

Addressing a press conference after the sixth session on 'plans for institutionalising the concept of 'cow protection' on the last day of the 'Glory of Gomatha' National Conference here, Dr Swaminadhan said 80 per cent of the cattle of Indian breed were now found in other countries.

It was high time various issues relating to the native breed were taken up, he added.

The conference was organised by the Tirumala Tirupati Devasthanams(TTD) and the Chennai-based Sri Bhashyakara Charitable Trust.
